Dear Parents and Guardians, A few notes about Production Week: We have posted the schedule on the calendar but will announce the call times for Friday on Monday. All parents and siblings are invited to attend the dress rehearsal of “The Who’s TOMMY” on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. This would be the only opportunity for photos or videos, all types of photography are not permitted by contract, during the performances. I will need to know if you will be attending the Dress Rehearsal, please let me know by return email. Our Cast and Crew have been invited to attend the Dress Rehearsal of “GREASE” at Spackenkill High School on Thursday, Everyone would be needed to provide their own transportation both to and from Spackekill High School. The show will begin at 6:00. Parents (and drivers) are invited to stay and watch the performance as well. As with the “TOMMY” dress rehearsal we will need to know if you attending. We will have water backstage but it would be wise to send water with your child. It would be a good idea to have your children rest each day after schools that they are prepared for the performances. Any questions, please let us know. Thanks for all your help and support.

August 16, 2016

Parents and Guardians,
Our recent production of “Peter Pan” was a huge success for our students and the community. We are moving forward and working steadily on our next production, of “Macbeth" on October 14 and 15 as well as “GREASE” opening on November 18 and running through November 20, 2016.
We have found that many of our Parents / Guardians are not aware of our structure, policies guidelines and goals and attendance at our Parent Meetings has been minimal at best. We believe that the reason for this is that word of the meetings is not getting to you and you may not be aware of our communications.
Considering this and the fact that your child will be involved with cast or crew, we are setting up a very important meeting. Following the model used by our sports activities we are asking you to attend a mandatory meeting regarding the organization, auditions, audition process, security, academic standards and many more issues that are vital to the continuation of The Beacon Players and your child’s involvement.
A very important information packet will given to you at the meeting, this packet contains, forms that you will need to fill out ( Emergency Contact Form) and information about all aspects of The Beacon Players.
We believe that it is essential that if you child is currently or is planning on being a member of the Beacon Players that you attend this meeting.
The meeting will be held on September 12th at 7:30 PM in the Large Instructional Classroom.
Please RSVP to ascarrone@optimum.net so that we will have all forms and packets prepared and ready for distribution.
If for some reason you cannot attend this meetings, please let us know and we will set up another time to meet on an individual basis.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions.
Students, please share with your parents.

Mr.Scarrone & Mr. Devine

January 5, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Beacon Players, the drama organization at Beacon High School, have begun preparing our Spring musical “Peter Pan” to be presented on April 8, 9 and10.
We would like to invite the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders of the Beacon City School District to audition to be part of our Youth Ensemble.
This group will be cast members, Lost Boys, Native Americans and Pirates (all non gender specific) and animals in the show and will have an opportunity to perform with our students, they will be singing, dancing and acting and will be considered for major speaking parts.
Depending upon the role, rehearsals for the Youth Ensemble will be evenings and Saturdays, the evening rehearsal schedule is from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM, (not every evening) Saturdays will be 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A rehearsal schedule will be provided since there might be days when the Youth Ensemble will not be required. As we approach the show dates and are “running” the show the Youth Ensemble will be required more frequently, this will be approximately 3 weeks prior to the performance.
Auditions for the Youth Ensemble will be held on February 10 and 11, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, the audition will be only for a half hour, the child that is auditioning will have to sing in a group and do some modest dance moves and recite some lines from the show.
In order to audition you must sign up for a time-slot, the time-slots are listed below:
4:00-4:30, 5:00-5:30, 5:30-6:00, 6:30-7:00, we might ask some of the students to return on for a call back on February 12th.
If your child is cast as Michael, the youngest Darling child, he/she will need to fly under the direction of our flying contractor, Flying by Foy.
Please email us at ascarrone@optimum.net, please include the child’s name, school, grade and age and indicate the time-slot that you would prefer. A confirmation e-mail will be sent back to you confirming the time, the auditions will be held at Beacon High School In the theater. Details about the audition will be in the confirmation email
We sincerely hope that you will consider allowing your child to be part of what will be a wonderful experience. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us via our website www.beaconplayers.com or at the above e-mail address. Please share this information.
Sincerely,

Mr.Scarrone & Mr. Devine

December 30, 2015

We have been trying to send this note to Parents/Guardians of ALL current and future members.
In order for your child to participate in any capacity a parent or Guardian must attend one of the meetings as noted below. Any questions, please let us know. Sincerly, December 26, 2015 Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our recent production of “A Christmas Carol” was a huge success for our students and the community. We are moving forward and working steadily on our next production, “Peter Pan” opening on April 8th and running through April 10, 2016.
We have found that many of our Parents / Guardians are not aware of our structure, policies guidelines and goals and attendance at our Parent Meetings has been minimal at best. We believe that the reason for this is that word of the meetings is not getting to you and you may not be aware of our communications.
Considering this and the fact that your child will be involved with cast or crew, we are setting up three meetings.
Three (3) meetings will be held and we ask that you attend one of them. The same items and issues will be discussed at each meeting. Attendance is only required at one meeting. The are as follows:
January 6 - at 7:30
January 7 - at 7:30
January 8 - at 7:30
Please RSVP to this email address so that we will have all forms and packets prepared and ready for distribution.
If for some reason you cannot attend any one of the meetings, please let is know and we will set up another time to meet on an individual basis.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions.
Looking forward to seeing you, Happy New Year!
Thanks,
Anthony Scarrone and PJ Devine

Asking ALL members, (except those who have submitted an audition form since parents email were included.)

Thanks

Dear Students and Parents,
We would like to thank every single child that auditioned for "A Christmas Carol." We had a very difficult time casting the show given all the talent that we saw on our stage.
We hope that if you weren't cast for this show, that you will return in January, when we cast "Peter Pan."
If you are on the list we ask that you confirm in an email to Mr. Scarrone at ascarrone@optimum.net and confirm acceptance of the role that you are offered.
Congratulations to everyone for fine job!

Hello everyone!! There's still a bit more help needed before the concert takes place. Today we had a successful clean up day! Thank you to those that came out to help. However, we do need to ask a favor. We have items that need to be brought from the school to the concert. If you or a parent have a truck that we can use to help move these items we would be very thankful. We have 2 carts full of heavy items to move. The items would need to picked up on Friday the 28th anytime before 3pm. Mr. Devine will meet with whoever decided to help us out at the school. The items will be kept in the truck(s) until the next day the 29th which is our concert. We would need the items to be brought to the athletic field at 8am the day of the concert. After the concert is all done we will pack the items back into the truck(s) and Monday the 31st Mr. Devine will meet with whoever is dropping off the items at the school again. If you or a parent can help us out with this big fast please contact me, the officers, Mr. Scarrone or Mr.Devine. We also need pop up tents for the concert. We have a few tents at the moment but we would appreciate if anyone could let us borrow for the day. Please contact me, the officers or Mr. Scarrone if you have tents we can borrow. To all those helping during the concert: Please show up at 8AM SHARP at Memorial Park to help unload items. Don't forget to wear your Beacon Players polos!!! Thank you all so much have a great day!!

After very careful consideration and reviewing our current and future financial position, it has been decided that"Mary Poppins" would be an extreme expense now that all the numbers have been received.
At this point we have received the rights to do the full musical version of "Peter Pan" which will offer the same special effects (flying, etc.) and we believe will be huge success.
Check out our FB page for more info.
Broadway's timeless classic musical whisks you away to a place where dreams are born and no one ever grows up! Based on J.M. Barrie's classic tale and featuring an unforgettable score by Morris "Moose" Charlap and Jule Styne with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh and Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Peter Pan is one of the most beloved and frequently performed family favorites of all time. This high-flying TONY Award-winning musical has been performed around the world and delighted audiences for 60 years. Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick Tinkerbell visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and with a sprinkle of pixie dust begin a magical journey across the stars that none of them will ever forget. In the adventure of a lifetime the travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce Indian tribe, a band of bungling pirates, and of course the villainous Captain Hook. Featuring the iconic songs "I'm Flying," "I've Gotta Crow," "I Won't Grow Up," and "Never Never Land," and a rousing book full of magic, warmth, and adventure, Peter Pan is the perfect show for the child in all of us who dreamed of soaring high and never growing up. Peter Pan is a dream-come true for theatres looking to spread their technical wings and entertain countless families.

Reminder - Important meeting tonight at 6:30

Mr.Scarrone & Mr. Devine

May 1, 2015

We have had many questions about the audition process for the Fall and Spring.
Although auditions for both shows will be held in the fall, we will not be rehearsing Mary Poppins in earnest until January. The plan will be to begin rehearsals for “A Christmas Carol" immediately with an occasional Mary Poppins rehearsal based upon availability, so if you were planning on doing a Fall sport or another activity we would work around those commitments.
We have also had many inquiries regarding audition requirements and songs for both shows, these will be discussed as well as information about study guides for both shows at Tuesday's meeting, this is a very important move that will let your officers and discuss information for your audition For both shows for both shows.
Please do not forget to nominate your choice for officers for the next school year.
Tuesday's meeting is for ALL members, cast and crew.

Hello,
We are reaching out to our Beacon Players parents for help. Once again we will be meeting this Saturday morning from 8:00-1:00 to work on our set, painting, hand being, steaming, ironing, building holding ladders, we need your help.
If you have your own tools and can bring them that would help us significantly.
Once again Mrs. Quinones will be organizing our cast party for our cast and crew after the Sunday performance, if you are interested in assisting her please let me know and I will forward the information to her. We are also in need of makeup foam triangles, black socks, empty containers for paint, and could use some assistance with hand sewing for our costume crew. We have not had a great response to our donation basket and would ask that you consider creating a basket for us. We rely on your generosity for the success of the program. Thanks for considering coming over on Saturday and donating a basket.
All of us at the Beacon Players

Dear Parents and Friends,
The Beacon Players depend upon our ticket sales, concession donations and ad’s to support the activity and our productions. The School District does not support us financially. We also very grateful to support from our parents and friends.
We would like to ask each of you if you would be so kind as to donate a basket for our production weekend of April 10, 11, and 12. The basket could consist of anything that you would like, perhaps of garden basket that would contain small garden tools, seeds and perhaps a magazine or a movie basket basket that would contain various different theater snacks and maybe a DVD and microwave popcorn, many more ideas listed below:
In order for us to continue the work that we are doing we need your help and this would help us greatly please consider donating a basket.
We would appreciate any type of basket or theme that you would like to donate, please consider doing this for us, you can send the basket in at any time please include an index card listing what’s in the basket. We have never done this at Beacon High school and are hoping this will be a successful fundraiser for us.
If you are able to do so please let us know as soon as possible and again all your help so greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,

Dear Parents,
Thanks to all of you who have assisted recently. We could use your help again, due to snow, reschedule of events and the USAF concert this week we are significantly behind regarding our set. our goal and our hope is that we will be able to accomplish a great deal this Saturday.
If you are able to help us build, paint, or help in general please join us on Saturday morning from 8 AM until 1 PM.
If you have your own tools and can bring them that would help us significantly.
We are also in need of makeup foam triangles, black socks, empty containers for paint, and could use some assistance with hand sewing for our costume crew.Br> Once again Mrs. Quinones will be organizing our cast party for our cast and crew after the Sunday performance, if you are interested in assisting her please let me know and I will forward the information to her. A separate note will be forthcoming regarding the party.
The show was not far away and we urge you to purchase your tickets since we are hoping to start on time for this production and usually our line is very long for ticket purchases the day of the show.
Once again any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

Mr.Scarrone

December 29, 2014

“Sides” These are the scenes that will be used at Auditions

SIDE #1: CHARLEMAGNE (CHARLES) & PIPPIN

PIPPIN: Father? I know what I want to do now. CHARLES: Good. Good. PIPPIN: I want to be a soldier. CHARLES: What?!

PIPPIN: Yes, I want to join you in your campaign against the Visigoths.

CHARLES: Denied.

PIPPIN: But that’s not fair! You’re taking Lewis!

CHARLES: Yes, well, your brother Lewis is an ideal soldier. He’s strong and stupid. You, on the other hand, are educated.

PIPPIN: But, I’m your oldest son. That means I’ll be King one day. Fighting wars is an important part of being king, isn’t it?

CHARLES: Fighting wars is the MOST important part of being king. I mean, after all, the pope and I have dedicated ourselves to bringing Christianity to the entire world, even if we have to kill every non-believer to do it.

PIPPIN: Well, that’s what I’m talking about. You’re dedicated to something and I just want to be dedicated to something too...with all my heart and soul... and whatever it is I want to do it as well as I possibly can. Otherwise, my life won’t have any meaning at all.

CHARLES: Oh, you want your life to have meaning, do you? PIPPIN: Yes, I do. CHARLES: Well, that’s very ambitious of you, Pippin. (Beat) Denied!

SIDE # 2: BERTHE & PIPPINSIDE #1: CHARLEMAGNE (CHARLES) & PIPPIN

SIDE # 2: BERTHE & PIPPIN

BERTHE: Oh, Pippin, you look terrible. You need some fresh air...some good food...(with a twinkle) some frolicking...

PIPPIN: Oh, Grandma, you haven’t changed a bit.

BERTHE: But you have, Pippin. Now something is the matter...What have you been doing with yourself?

PIPPIN: I went to war, Grandma.

BERTHE: No wonder you look so terrible. Men and their wars. Sometimes I think men raise flags when they can’t...Pippin, what’s wrong?

PIPPIN: Well, Grandma, my life is going by. I have to start doing something meaningful, but I don’t know what it is. So I feel empty and vacant.

BERTHE: Empty...and vacant? Now Pippin, listen to me. You’re going to hear something very... “wise”. Don’t take life so seriously. Just take things as they come along. Don’t do too much planning, and don’t do too much thinking. How’s that for wisdom so far?

PIPPIN: Well, frankly, Grandma, I expected a little more from you than that. BERTHE: It’ll sound better with music. Hit it!!

SIDE #3: FASTRADA & PIPPIN (FASTRADA is setting up PIPPIN to murder his father.) FASTRADA: Your father loves you, Pippin.

PIPPIN: Freedom and dignity for all men is more important than the love between one father and one son.

FASTRADA: Still, your name will be on his lips when he prays...at Arles...next month...alone...

PIPPIN: He prays at Arles next month? Alone? FASTRADA: Alone and unguarded... PIPPIN: Alone and unguarded. What date? FASTRADA: The fifteenth.

PIPPIN: What time?

FASTRADA: When the cock crows. Pippin, Pippin, I beg you to bring this estrangement to an end.

PIPPIN: I intend to.

FASTRADA: May I tell your father of this resolve? PIPPIN: No, no, no. Let it be a surprise.

FASTRADA: A surprise! (To audience) I love surprises.

SIDE #4: CATHERINE & LEADING PLAYER

LEADING PLAYER: Enter...Catherine! (She doesn’t enter) Where is she?

(Catherine enters in a hurry)

CATHERINE: Sorry! I couldn’t get my eyelash on...

LEADING PLAYER: It’s ok. We’ll try it again. (Catherine exits) Enter...Catherine. (She does) A lovely young widow with a very large estate.

CATHERINE: When I first saw Pippin he was lying there in the road like a discarded rag. I would’ve passed him by. Perhaps I should’ve passed him by. But there was something about his foot...it was the arch of his foot that caught my eye. The man had obviously lost the will to live. So the first thing I had to do was to get him interested in something...something that would restore his faith in life...something like... me.

SIDE #5: CATHERINE & PIPPIN

PIPPIN: I’ve got to get out of here.

CATHERINE: Pippin, what’s the matter?

PIPPIN: I just can’t stay here. I’ve got to go.

CATHERINE: I don’t understand. Why?

PIPPIN: Because this isn’t enough. Life is more than ducks that die...and leaking roofs...and flaming quince pudding!

CATHERINE: Are you sure?

PIPPIN: Yes I’m sure. And I am not going to be stuck doing the same thing every day...

CATHERINE: ...and night? PIPPIN: Don’t you see, there has to be something more than this. There has to be.

CATHERINE: Maybe there isn’t anymore. (To Operator) Can you hold the light for a minute, please? Thank you.

PIPPIN: What are you doing? CATHERINE: Singing. PIPPIN: You don’t have a song here. CATHERINE: I do now.

SIDE #6: LEADING PLAYER (To PIPPIN)

All right...you’ll see what it’s like without us...take away the set...everything out...move it. (The set begins to move out) Colored lights out. Take ‘em out. Pinks and reds out... (The lights becomes harsh. PIPPIN does not answer) Well, that’s not too flattering is it, Pippin? Costumes...get their costumes...(players strip PIPPIN, CATHERINE & THEO leaving them in the underclothes) Make up...let’s go...get it off...and the wigs...Look around, Pippin. How do things look to you now?

A mole. Pippin. Look at the mole on her face. You’re going to spend the rest of your life with a woman with a mole? And the kid, do you know how much he’s gonna cost you? Is this what you want?

(Suddenly remembering the audience, big smile.)

Ladies and gentlemen, we apologize for our inability to bring you the finale that we promised. It seems our extraordinary young man has elected to compromise his aspirations. But I know there are many of you out there...extraordinary people...exceptional people...who would gladly trade your ordinary lives for the opportunity to do one perfect act—Our Grand Finale. Now, if you should decide to do so, we’ll be there for you...waiting...anytime you want us. Why, we’re right inside your heads! And we promise you sets, costumes, lights, magic and a short--- but spectacular career!

(He sees this isn’t working)
All right. Let’s go! Out. Everybody out!...Out!!

Lisa Hornick

Please reply back to me today, with the following information: Will you attend yes or no, what you can contribute, and how many in your party.
It looks like the majority vote is for a pizza party, so we will go with that option. We need to secure funds to cover pizza, beverages, cake and paper goods, last year it came to $300.
Please send money by no later than this Wednesday, 11/19/14. You can send money (cash) with your child in a sealed envelope with your name on it labeled Cast Party and address it to Mr. Scarrone or Mr. Devine. If you are contributing beverages (we need soda and bottled water) to the party, you can drop those off on Sunday (I'll be at the school, by 1:00 pm for set-up) Once I gather the funds on Wednesday, I'll order and pickup everything else needed.

November 11, 2014

Dear parents,
As we get closer to our performance of Footloose on November 21 22 and 23 we are asking for any help that you can possibly give us. We will need some parents to help in the lobby before the performance and during intermission.
If you have purchased tickets you will still be able to see the show.
Let me know what day works best for you to help, and yes you can help with more than one performance. This year we will be selling hotdogs before each performance and during intermission along with apparel, cast pictures, flowers, candy, popcorn, water and soda.
One parent at each table would be much appreciated. We are also looking for any parents that would like to donate large rectangle shaped plastic table clothes ... found at the dollar store for at least 10 tables. Checkerboard black and red or red and white would be great if they are available so we can keep a theme of a country fair. Also streamers for decorating the lobby would be wonderful as well. If you have any ideas for creating a country fair theme in our lobby I welcome your input.
Once I have enough parents helping I will create a spreadsheet with a schedule and will send it to everyone.

Thanks again,
Randy Benson

DIRECTIONS TO CUNEEN-HACKETT
From Rte 9, north or south, take Main Street/River District/Poughkeepsie exit ramp. Take Main Street East bound (opposite way from the Hudson River). Go through 3 traffic signals turn left on Vassar Street; the theatre is mid-block on left.
From Taconic State Parkway, take the Poughkeepsie exit (Rte 55 West) into the town of Poughkeepsie. Rte 55 & Rte 44 combine into a one directional 3-lane highway. Take this into the city of Poughkeepsie. Stay in right-hand lane; as you make a large left turn around the Civic Center, move into the far right hand lane and turn right onto Main Street. Go ½ block and turn right on Vassar Street; the theatre is mid-block on the left.

Mr.Scarrone

November 9, 2014

This Tuesday, we will be meeting/rehearsing at the Cuneen-Hackett Arts Center, theater is located at 9 Vassar Street in Poughkeepsie, NY.
We will be meeting at 6:30 PM and our rehearsal should last about an hour to an hour and a half.
The Sound Crew will be required to attend as well.
We realize that this is an unusual event for us but it will be an exciting event that we can share and will provide great experience for all of us
If any parents or students can and would be willing to carpool for those students that cannot get to the theater on their own please e-mail me as soon as possible at ascarrone@optimum.net
For those students that will require transportation, please email me asap and we will try to provide transportation.
As was mentioned at our Youth Ensemble meeting we were considering using the Youth Ensemble at this event, we however have decided that it might be over extending them since their rehearsal schedule will soon become more intense as we get closer. I have sent a note to the YE parents separately. For the actual performance, we will be meeting in the "Green Room" of the theater prior to the performance. Please wear your "Footloose" T Shirts, jeans and sneakers, girls, please have your hair pulled back away from your face.
The event is called "Team Hobie Coffee House"
Hobie Simpson is a local resident who suffers from Chondrosacoma, this is a type of cancer that invades the cartilage tissue of the body. We have faith and hope that Hobie will beat this. The proceeds from this Coffee House Event will be donated to Team Hobie.
THANKS EVERYONE

Officer information: Becoming an officer is not something to take lightly. This is not a popularity contest, but rather an opportunity to represent your organization and to make positive changes and advancements for the Beacon Players. With that in mind, your speech to the general membership should contain some important information: Why you are running for office? Tell the members why you decided to run for office and why you think you are the best choice for that office What experience do you have to bring to the position OR why are you qualified to have this position? Have you been an officer before or have you held a position of leadership/responsibility in the past? Or, do you think your passion can help you lead? Explain to the members why you would be great! What role have you played as a Beacon Player this past year (and in years past) beyond on or back stage? Did you come to help crew or were you here always on time and ready to go? Did you volunteer to write an article or help at various events that we did this year or in the past? What do you plan to do as officer? Every politician has plans...what are yours? What will you do to enhance the organization and push it forward in a positive direction? Any other things you think would be relevant to the membership to know so they have a better picture of who you are and why they should vote for you.

Lyrics to be memorized:
Everybody Rejoice
Entire Cast
Everybody look around
'Cause there's a reason to rejoice you see
Everybody come out
And let's commence to singing joyfully
Everybody look up
And feel the hope that we've been waiting for
Everybody's glad
Because our silent fear and dread is gone
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Everybody be glad
Because the sun is shining just for us
Everybody wake up
Into the morning into happiness
Hello world
It's like a different way of living now
And thank you world
We always knew
that we'd be free somehow
In harmony,And show the world that we've got liberty
It's such a change
For us to live so independently
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Can't you feel a brand new day?
Everybody be glad
Because the sun is shining just for us
Everybody wake up
Into the morning into happiness

December 10, 2012

Hello Everyone, Congratulations on an amazing job this past weekend, we are all very proud of the work that you put in and in such a short period of time. Now onto The Wiz. As you probably know we will be searching for a new Dorothy for our production. The officers and Advisors have decided to have auditions for this role and we are excited to announce that anyone can audition for the part of Dorothy even if they are already cast in the show. We will work to have a full cast in place so that we can hit the ground running and make this a huge success. For the role of Dorothy you will have to sing one of her songs from the show and and we will send you the lyrics and the track so that you can rehearse at home before attending a workshop that we will schedule about the role and the audition. If you already have a major role in the show you are welcome to audition as well so what might happen is that we might be shifting parts around based upon who would get the role of Dorothy. The auditions will be held Immediately after the holidays and will be announced sometime next week. This giving you time to prepare. If you are interested or if you know anyone that is interested please e-mail me at ascarrone@optimum.net or through the website as soon as possible. All you need to do is give me your name e-mail address and let me know that you are interested in the role of Dorothy. If you know anyone who might be interested in being cast in the show and did not audition because of possible conflicts in the fall they are welcome to e-mail me as well and we will open the cast to allow more people the opportunity to be involved. If you have any questions at all please feel free to let me know. Thanks and I'm looking forward to our next endeavor.
