Disney’s “Frozen” Audition Packet & Audition Form

Take a moment if you would like and watch this video posted below regarding audition tips, not everything would be applicable to your Beacon Players audition, but some information is helpful. Any questions let us know.

For the first time in forever, experience the musical phenomenon that has taken the world by storm! Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, Disney’s Frozen includes all the film’s beloved songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, along with new music written exclusively for the stage.

In the beautiful mountainous kingdom of Arendelle, Princesses Anna and Elsa grow up sheltered inside their castle, isolated from the world and increasingly distant from each other. When Elsa is crowned queen, the magical powers she’s desperately tried to conceal from her sister take control, and she flees into the mountains. As a ferocious winter descends on Arendelle, Anna sets off on an epic journey to find Elsa and bring her home – with the help of hardworking ice harvester Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, and a happy-go-lucky snowman named Olaf.

Full of magic, humor, and a stunning musical score, Frozen is a powerful tale of sisterhood, acceptance, and finding the real meaning of true love.

ELSA: (Female) Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: E3 Next in line for the throne, Elsa has been born with magical powers that can overwhelm her when she becomes afraid and harm others if not handled with care. Fearful of hurting anyone, especially her beloved sister, Anna, Elsa becomes anxious and withdrawn as she grows older, before eventually learning to take control of, and become confident in, her powers. Strong singer required.
ANNA: (Female) Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: G3 Filled with a tremendous amount of light, energy and love, Anna is a hopelessly optimistic extrovert at all ages, but as she grows older, she longs for connection with others, especially her sister, Elsa. She is a warm and determined princess that is a strong singer with great comic timing.
KRISTOFF: (Male) Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: A2 Kristoff is a hardworking ice harvester who has a sarcastic veneer and a rough-around-the-edges exterior that hides a big heart. Taken in by the Hidden Folk when he was young, he loves Pabbie and Bulda dearly, but is a bit of a loner with a reindeer for a best friend- until he meets Anna. He has a cynical sense of humor with charming banter.
HANS: (Male) Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: A2 The ambitious Prince of the Southern Isles and overlooked thirteenth son of a king. Hans constantly strives to find a way to make good and stand out. He boasts an exceedingly charming facade that fools everyone – including Anna and, ideally, the audience – into believing he’s Prince Charming, when really, he’s just a jerk.
OLAF: (Male or female) The magical snowman created by Anna and Elsa when they were young. Olaf is endearingly delighted by everything – especially the idea of summer. Goofy and sweet, Olaf should possess a childlike innocence and excellent comic timing. An Olaf puppet will be used in the show for this role.
OAKEN: (Male or Female ) Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: A2 An exceedingly cheerful and friendly wandering salesperson and ardent devotee to all things cozy and comfortable. Oaken’s “Hygge” is a showstopper. This peppy peddler’s infectious warmth has tons of flair and good humor.
WESELTON: (Male presenting, Age 40+) Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: F3 A visiting duke who possesses a huge inferiority complex. A bombastic, overbearing sycophant, Weselton’s sole purpose is to hobnob with influencers and royalty. He is a narrow-minded naysayer with over-the-top gusto. SVEN: (Male or female presenting, Age Adult) Sven is a reindeer of few words, fiercely loyal pal to Kristoff, and loves giving the ice harvester a hard time. Puppeteer/movement based performer.
KING AGNARR (Male presenting, Age 30s) The warm-hearted ruler of Arendelle is committed to protecting both his family and the Townspeople from his eldest daughter’s powers.
QUEEN IDUNA: (Female presenting, Age 30s) The queen possesses a sense of rightness and kindness that guides her in her protection of her two young girls. A daughter of the Northern Nomads, this queen has the ability to communicate with the Hidden Folk of the mountains and so understands Elsa’s powers deeply.
PABBIE and BULDA (Male and female presenting, Age 30s-40s) Pabbie and Bulda are the mystical leaders of the Hidden Folk who have a soft spot for “strays.” Everbenevolent, these parental figures want what’s best for Kristoff, even if they are a bit misguided in their efforts. Looking for amiable performers who will endear themselves to the audience in the crowdpleaser, “Fixer Upper.”
ENSEMBLE Singer/Dancers for various supporting roles: strong singers who move very well. Includes Townspeople, Hidden Folk, Castle Staff, Housekeeper, Butler, Handmaiden, Cook, Steward, Guards, Summer Chorus, Sauna Dancers

Please prepare 1–2 sides for your selected character(s). This is your chance to showcase your acting ability and storytelling. There’s no need to memorize the selected side, but please print it out, trying to read it from your phone is not the best way to approach this part of the audition.

ANNA
Goodness. That was awkward. (to HANS) Not that you’re awkward, but just because we’re…I’m awkward. You’re gorgeous. Wait, what? I’m Princess Anna of Arendelle. (Hans drops to his knees) Oh, no. You don’t have to do that. I’m not that princess. My sister Elsa is the Queen. I’m not. No. I’m…just me. I mean, I’m not the heir, I’m just the spare. Not that I’m complaining. I’m not a complainer. (feelingfoolish) Forget it. I’m not making any sense. See, I’ve lived a bit of a sheltered life so, I’m not so good
with actual real live people. But I want to be….

KRISTOFF
(to Anna) What am I doing out here? I live out here. What are you doing out here?
Are you looking for the sister who just ruined my ice business? Well don’t let me keep you from those bigger problems. Nice dress by the way. (Anna goes to leave) I wouldn’t go that way if I were you…. Or that way. (to Sven) Hmm, what do you think, Sven?
SVEN: Well, Kristoff, I think she’s gonna die on her own.
KRISTOFF: I don’t know; she’s made it this far. I, for one, am pretty impressed.
SVEN: Still, maybe you should offer to help her.
KRISTOFF: I would, but I don’t think she’d take it. (Back to Anna) Well, I guess I can help you. The storm came from the North Mountain, which is where I’m guessing you’ll find your sister. And to do that you’ll need warmer clothes, which I’ve got, and climbing gear, which I’ve also got, and climbing
skills, which I’ve also…

HANS
Anna, what happened out there? You said Elsa would never hurt you. You were wrong. She froze your heart and only an act of true love can save you? A true love’s kiss? Oh, Anna. If only there was someone out there who loved you. I lied about loving you. As thirteenth in line, I knew I’d have to marry into the throne. You were an obvious target, but who knew Elsa would make this so easy for me? You two have doomed each other…and made me the hero who just tried to help. It’s worked out well…

OLAF
Anna! (embraces Anna) Warm hug! Oh no. The fire’s out! (OLAF rushes past ANNA, grabs a match and re-lights the fire.) Whoa. So that’s heat. I love it! So, where’s Hans? What happened to your kiss? I am not leaving here until we find some other act of true love to save you… You don’t even know
what love is. That’s okay, I do… Love is putting someone else’s needs before yours, you
know, like how Kristoff brought you back here to Hans and left you forever. Wow, you really don’t know anything about love, do you?
OAKEN
Hoo-hoo! Hello, man. Hello, lady. Hello, little child in snowman costume! Today is lucky for you. Here atWandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna we are offering a Big Summer Blow-Out Sale. Half off our short shorts, open- toed foot clogs, and a balm of my own invention for the repelling of the rays of the sun. Bathing suits are half off! Yah? You need something for climbing the North Mountain where many have frozen to death? I have exactly what you are needing…HYGGE! (HEW-guh)

WESTLETON
Weselton! The Duke of Weselton. Your Majesty, as your most profitable trading partner, it’s about time we met face to face. And lucky me, what a wonderful face you have. I mean, I’ve met some queens whose faces would choke a horse; and there’s no trading them in, what you get is what you get. But you… you are a model queen. (extending a hand) Dance with me. Come, let me tempt you with my tango.

PABBIE or BULDA
Anna, your life is in danger. There is ice in your heart, put there by your sister. If not removed, to solid ice will you freeze, forever. If it was her head, I could remove it readily. But the heart does not so easily let go of its pain. I’ll do all I can.
KING AGNARR or QUEEN IDUNA
Put these gloves on, Elsa. See if they help you keep it inside. There will come a day when you’ll have to stand before your people without them. You must be prepared for everything, Elsa. We’ll close the gates and reduce the staff. We must limit your contact with people and keep your powers hidden from everyone, including Anna. Breathe. Just breathe. Now again, Conceal it. Don’t feel it. Don’t let it show…
Take a deep breath and enjoy the process—we want every performer to walk into the audition feeling confident, supported, and ready to do their best work.
The strongest auditions come from preparation, so spend time getting familiar with the material in advance. Be open and flexible as well, because you may be asked to read or sing for a character you were not originally planning on. Sometimes we may imagine you in a role you had not considered for yourself.

To help you prepare, we have provided a full set of audition resources. These include the complete script, selected sheet music, and the tracks that will be used during auditions. You will also find sides available for scene work.
If you are auditioning for any principal role, please make sure that you are familiar with all the songs attributed to them, familiarity does not mean memorization, so be aware that you might be asked to sing more than one song at callbacks.
If you are auditioning for Elsa, please be familiar with the entire song. “Let it Go” and “Monster” you might be asked to sing the entire song
While memorization is not required, it is highly recommended that you review the songs beforehand and bring a printed copy of the side and lyrics you plan to use. Having it in hand is far more practical and professional than relying on your phone. In most cases, sides will be used primarily for callbacks and audition scenes.
All song lyrics can be found in the script, so be sure to use it as part of your preparation.

What is this hollow kind of helplessness I’m feeling?
This type of terror is new
And the fact that I can hardly breathe is now revealing
How much I’ve changed ’cause of you
You light the world for me
You live life fearlessly
Braver than the bravest of us do
You trust, you hope, you dare
You choose to feel and care
I thought that I was strong till I bumped into you
What do I know about love?
What do I know about love?
Everything I thought I did
You’ve gone and changed it kid
You’re what I know about love
